Understanding faulty proteins
One family of human proteins is known as potassium channel tetramerisation domain (KTCD) proteins. When these don’t work properly, they are linked to a wide range of conditions including schizophrenia, leukaemia, and autism.
Using AlphaFold, researchers have been able to build a new evolutionary family tree based on the shape of these proteins. This could help solve all kinds of mysteries, and one day, lead scientists towards new treatments for a range of health conditions.
